【Award】Professor Toshihide Ibaraki (former professor of the Department of Information Science, Faculty of Science and Engineering, Kwansei Gakuin University) was awarded the Order of the Sacred Treasure with Ribbon at the Spring 2024 conferment of decorations. 【Report】Research by Daisuke Chugo, Professor (Service Robotics Laboratory) was featured in the April issue of Forbes JAPAN, published on February 24, 2024. [article]
The research featured in the article is related to eco-braking wheelchair technology that enables wheelchairs to be used on slopes as if they were on level ground by attaching a small, low-cost driving assist device to a manual wheelchair. In the same issue, the efforts of the Kansai Startup Academia Coalition (KSAC) were introduced, and Professor Chugo's research was featured as one of the volumes. 【Event】Professor Daisuke Chugo (Service Robotics Laboratory) exhibited the Eco Brake wheelchair at Yokohama Robot World 2023 (Service Robot Exhibition / Exhibitor List) held at Pacifico Yokohama on November 8th and 9th, 2023. "Eco Brake Wheelchair" is a driving support device for manual wheelchairs. By attaching brake units equipped with this technology to both the left and right wheels of a JIS-standard manual wheelchair, the wheelchair can be maneuvered even on slopes as if it were on flat ground.
