Occidental History

Course Purpose
This course mainly deals with History of Ancient Near East, Classical World (Greek-Roman), and Medieval Europe. Its objective for students to understand how the Western World and its culture developed by looking at politics, society, culture and religion, and learn about approaches history from a scientific perspectives, and recent research trends.
Learning Goals
・Students will acquire a basic knowledge of the history of the Ancient Near East, Ancient Greece, Hellenism, Ancient Rome, and Medieval History.
・Students will acquire a deeper understanding of historical descriptions, epigraphs, papyri, money and archaeological materials, all of which are indispensable in the study of ancient history.
・Students will be taught ideas and theories that are common throughout the history of science.
